Event Description

Each year before the start of the season a Performance Assessment Weekend takes place. Entry to further events on the British Youth and Junior Super Series will be based upon results at the weekend and this year the Performance Assessment will also carry Super Series points, making it the first event in the series.

The assessments include a swim time trial on the Saturday followed by a combined bike/run on the Sunday. Athletes are given a cumulative result for all three disciplines.

This is a big weekend for Pathway activity and as well as the chance to compete for Super Series race starts the following is also available:

  • Athlete education workshops from national programme staff and sports science/sports medicine practitioners along with current or recently retired senior athletes (Saturday). Sessions are linked with the Home Nation Talent Education Programmes.
  • Parent education workshops also from national programme staff and sports science/sports medicine practitioners that are linked to British Triathlon’s Parent Education programme designed to better support you in supporting your athlete (Saturday). This will also include the induction programme for parents whose athletes are new to the Super Series.
  • The chance to speak to National Staff, University Triathlon Leads and Regional Coaches throughout the weekend.

Objectives of the Performance Assessments:

  • Provide a pathway wide education opportunity for athletes and parents.
  • Set the order of entry for the next two Youth and Junior Super Series races, as well as contributing to overall Super Series points which will set the order of entry for the remainder of the events.
  • Provide an early season race/performance trial for all involved.

Minimum Standards:

Any athlete in the Youth or Junior category (2000 – 2004 born) is welcome to attend as long as they meet the swim standards listed below. We are committed as a Pathway to athletes being appropriately challenged, athletes outside of these standards are not developmentally ready for British level racing and should focus on Regional racing instead:

Youth Male: 05:45min          Youth Female: 06:00min

Junior Male: 11:40min        Junior Female: 12:00min

The entry cost covers entry to all education sessions (for parent and athlete) as well as the assessment. A limited number of places will also be available for interested club coaches.

Please note that we do have a set maximum capacity in each category based on pool time available. If we are unable to accept your entry due to reaching this capacity (confirmation by 1st March 2019), you will be refunded the entry cost and placed on a waiting list in case there are any withdrawals.
